Writing in the Rain

We do that a lot here in Oregon–a bit of thinking, too. I’ve been following a long thread on Linkedin about self publishing. It’s the wave of the future, some say, since the publishing industry is imploding. It’s crap, others reply. It’s like taking a hooker to the prom: Of course you’ll get a date, of course you’ll get ‘lucky’ and of course, you’ll pay. My problem with self-publishing, though I think it’s right for some folks, is that there are so many bottom-feeders out there making false promises to unsuspecting writers. They are, in the words of that American poet, Merle Haggard, “. . . walkin’ on the fightin’ side of me. I’d be interested in your feedback
